Takuma Sato signs a limited edition print!

The 101st running of the Indy 500 was a great race, with pace, strategy and luck all playing out in the final few laps. Takuma Sato passed Helio Castroneves with a couple of laps to go, and Helio did not have the car to be able to pass Takuma back. Right after the race I painted this image at the Firestone hospitality chalet in from of hundreds of Firestone guests. It took about 2 hrs all in, but was complicated by the fact that a thunderstorm knocked out the

power. However, a number of people in the crowd pressed against the stage turned on the flashlights in their phones to illuminate the canvas to allow me to finish!!

Before I was done, both winning car owner Michael Andretti and driver Takuma Sato came up on stage with me to celebrate with us and to sign the painting! I am happy to announce that Takuma has agreed to also sign a number of very limited edition prints of this image!! Please see to order:

Sometimes March can be a good time for me to catch up on commissions, do paintings for future shows and to explore landscapes and abstracts...as well as to fly my RC helicopters and planes! However, this March started with a bang!

On Saturday night, March 12th at the IndyCar race in Tampa I did a live painting for Banker's Insurance at the beautiful Vinoy Hotel with 150 or so in attendance. Banker’s Trust is an affiliate sponsor of Ed Carpenter Racing. The painting features their driver Josef Newgarden passing the Salvador Dali Museum which is on the waterfront, right next to the track. Unfortunately for me, the museum was closed during the IndyCar weekend…I’ll have to find a way to see it sometime.

A 6:00am flight out on Sunday March 13th got me to Phoenix in time to see the start of the Sprint Cup race and to set up my easel in Victory Circle and to paint the race winner live. It was great seeing Kevin Harvick win again and always great to see my son Will (also a huge motor enthusiast) who lives in Phoenix.

Monday morning March 14th another 6:00am flight to get me to Detroit for another live painting event at the Henry Ford Museum for Lincoln Motor Company. (I have to go back and spend days at that museum...what an amazing museum!)

I did a painting of the new Lincoln that was being shown to dealers from around the country for the first time.

While in Detroit, I got to have dinner with my old friend John McElroy (www.autoline.tv) and his wife Marie. John and I went to our first car race together in Argentina in the late 60's. Our fathers were both working in Argentina at the time and we attended high school together. Going to those first few races together changed the trajectories of our lives!

As usual it was another fantastic racing weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca! Mazda had to be thrilled with pole for the first time in the Weathertech Sportscar Championship, and Ford score a huge victory with the Ford GT.

On Sunday afternoon I hustled my setup over to the Porscheplatz hospitality tent and did a live painting of the 911 which was immediately auctioned to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation. Toward the end of the day back in the booth, I did an interview with "The Racing Ear" (www.theracingear.com) which can be heard here:

Monster Jam...Alamodome with VP Racing Fuels!!!

What a teriffic night at the Alamodome with VP Racing Fuels!!! Did a painting of the VP Fuel's monster truck at its inaugural race. Here I am with the finished product with Bruce Hendel, Director of Sales, Consumer Products, at VP Racing Fuels Inc., in their hospitality suite.

Already thinking about the nice warm summers in Monterey! This was a commission for a client in the Bay area.
